Karloff in an Old Dark House

These are test make-up shots of Boris Karloff in "The Old Dark House".  Jack Pierce did the make-up.  The final result was more subtile and less terrifying.

"Are you talkin' to me?"

"I combed my hair just for you."

I'm a Happy Go-Lucky Guy!

It is always nice to see Lon Chaney, Jr. smiling since he is in such agony in all of his films.

"Give me a wolf hug!"

"Notice how his head is flat."

A cured Wolf Man in love.

"Your hunch makes you a monster."

"I'm Baron Latos, but my friends call me Dracula!"

"I know I have the right to remain creepy!"

Watts Up?

Today is Naomi Watts' birthday.  She did an incredible job playing Ann Darrow in Peter Jackson's "King Kong".  Here are some photos from the picture.

Shave and a Hair Cut

This is a rare behind the scenes photo of Lon Chaney getting his make-up applied in "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein".  This Wolf Man make-up was not done by Jack Pierce, but by Bud Westmore.  The results were not nearly as good as Pierce's version.

"I spend a lot of time at the barbershop."

Hyde Karloff

Here is a sequence of shots of the transformation of Karloff turning into Mr. Hyde in "Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."

"I can't bear to watch!"

Drawing Lugosi

Here is a nice drawing of Bela Lugosi as Dracula, which Lugosi himself signed.

FM Fridays - "Out of This World Monsters"

They have him locked in jail and they'll keep him there!

Here is a very nice painting of Boris Karloff as the Frankenstein Monster from "Bride of Frankenstein".

You have just entered... The Sock Zone?

After returning from 5th dimension, Rod Serling went on to a successful career as a sock salesman.

"This, as you may recognize, is a most uncommon sock."

What a mug!

"Have you seen a blind girl in here?"

"The Bride of Rondostein!"

"I will make the most beautiful sculpture of

I have a hunch...

Here are some photos of one of Lon Chaney's thousand faces.  This is his portrayal of Quasimodo in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame".

Hello Quasi!

"I have a hunch that you said something about
my hunch!"

"Don't have pity on me because of my hunch, bulging eyeball,
and lack of hearing."

Quasimodo is about to be whipped.

"I was so thirsty after the beating."
