Come on In! The Water's Fine!

    I believe this photo resembles the slightly larger than life sized Creature figure which was part the old Universal Studios tour back in the early 60's. As the shark from Jaws is in the lake today, so the creature would suddenly pop-up as the trams went by. Back in 1986 when I worked there the top half (arms, head, upper chest) was sitting up, rusting in front of a storage area in the upper lot near the visitor center. Didn't have the belly and hips. I take it the device swiveled up out of the water and the upper chest head and arms moved. They may have had a costumed person for certain special event tours, but this looks very much like what I saw. National Geographic had an article on southern Ca. in 1966, they had photos of the tour and a color one of the Creature which was a man in a good costume.

    Looking closer, it appears to have folds from a costume. Not sure now.
